Who is therapy for?
Therapy can be for anybody. The purpose of therapy is to provide a safe, compassionate environment where people can explore what is going on in their lives and bring about change. It’s for anyone who wants support in growing.

Many of my clients are struggling with life transitions that challenge all of us: a career change, a shift in status or income, marriage, divorce, the loss of a loved one, or unwelcome conflict within their relationships. Coming to therapy doesn’t mean “there is something wrong with you.”

What type of clients do you work with?
I work with adults (age 18+) and couples.

People come to see me for a variety of reasons. Some come in reporting anxiety, depression or PTSD and are looking for relief in order to lead happier, more productive lives.

Some are facing significant life decisions and are confused about which path to take. Some want help with their relationships or want to heal a wound from an old relationship that continues to bring pain.

And others can’t quite put their finger on it, but report a general unease or numbness and want to bring more joy, clarity or meaning to life.

What is your approach?
Therapy is different for each person. An approach that works with one client may not resonate with another.

Generally, the first few sessions focus on assessment and goal setting, and I tailor my approach after learning about each client.

For individuals I primarily use cognitive strategies, mindfulness, EMDR, i-Rest, and Internal Family Systems.

My work with couples is rooted in Dr. Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy and the research of Drs. John and Julie Gottman. You can read more about these modalities at www.gottman.com and http://www.iceeft.com/index.php/about-us/what-is-eft.

How long will it take?
This is a very difficult question to answer. It depends on many things, including the person or couple and the reasons for coming to therapy.

During the process, however, I continuously check in with my clients to see whether they feel as though they are making progress toward their goals, and if not, what needs to change with respect to the work we are doing.

Are you licensed?
Yes, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the State of Texas.

An LMFT is licensed to work with individuals, couples, and families.

What if I see you in public?
If we see each other in public, I will not greet you. This is to preserve confidentiality. If you approach me to say hello, however, I will say hello back.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, I am not a medical doctor (MD), so I cannot prescribe medication.
